International Jumping Festival – September 16-20, 2015

The feature event this week was the USEF Talent Search West Coast Final. KERA MCCANDLESS flew down to participate, and we had a lot of fun suiting up her NINYA 2 as an equitation horse. The finals are set up in a way that introduces young riders to the format of a show jumping championship event. For instance, the speakers at the rider’s meeting emphasized the importance of the rider’s utilization of each phase to better their horses in preparation to jump clear rounds in the final phase (much like a rider preparing their horse for a Nations Cup event). The top four horses jogged in an FEI format before the testing, where each rider would navigate the course on the other competitors’ horses.
This class is an important part of developing the future talent of our show jumping sport, and we were so excited to see Kera involved and participating with some of the best young riders on the West Coast.
